Mostar's Ottoman old town in the morning and the Marian pilgrimage site of Međugorje in the afternoon. Two faiths, two histories, one quiet day.
Međugorje is a small Herzegovinian village that, since 1981, has been a destination for millions of Catholic pilgrims. According to six local witnesses, the Virgin Mary appeared on a hill above the village that summer and has continued to appear since — the Vatican has not pronounced on the apparitions, but it has authorised pilgrimage and the village has grown into one of the most visited religious sites in Europe. For believers, it is a deeply personal journey. For curious travellers, it is also a glimpse of contemporary Catholic Europe at full intensity.
Paired with Mostar — twenty minutes north — Međugorje makes a quieter, more reflective version of the standard Mostar day trip. The route is the same in the morning: 7am pickup from Dubrovnik, the road north via Neum or Metković, the BiH border, and Mostar by 10am. The walking tour is the same — Stari Most, the Karadjozbey Mosque, the Old Bazaar, the licensed local guide who explains the rebuild — but slightly shorter, because the afternoon is given over to Međugorje.
In Međugorje we visit the Church of St. James, where Mass is offered in many languages each day and the schedule includes evening adoration. The two pilgrimage hills are short walks — Apparition Hill, where the Virgin reportedly first appeared, and Cross Mountain (Križevac), with the path of the Stations of the Cross climbing past white-painted shrines. For those who want, time for confession and personal prayer is built in. For those who do not, the route is also a beautiful piece of Herzegovinian countryside in its own right.
Lunch is between the two stops — typically a roadside grill outside Mostar with grilled meat, peppers and homemade flatbread. The drive back is the Neretva valley road, with vineyards either side and (depending on season) the sun setting behind the river. You arrive in Dubrovnik in the early evening, having had a deliberately gentler day than the Kravice version.
This is the right pairing for anyone whose Bosnia day is more about meaning than waterfalls. Many guests pair it with a separate Kravice-day later in their trip; others wouldn't want to mix the two. We're happy to advise on the right shape for you.

Generic reasons help no-one. Here's what specifically sets this trip apart from a coach tour or a self-drive — for this destination, on this route.
We treat Međugorje as the spiritual destination it is — quiet, unhurried, time for personal prayer if you want it.
Our Bosnian guides are practising Catholics themselves and pitch the day appropriately for pilgrims and curious travellers alike.
Both stops get genuine time — not a rushed bridge-photo and a passing Međugorje wave.
Want longer at the shrine? Less time in Mostar? We adjust on the morning. The driver works for you.
Nearly three decades on the same coastline. The same operator runs nine boats and the same office takes every call.
Real reviews from travellers who have done exactly this trip. We publish them unedited.
"Did the Mostar & Međugorje trip with Boat Dubrovnik and it was hands down the highlight of our holiday. The driver knew every viewpoint and every place to stop. Worth every euro and more."
"Five-star service from first email to drop-off at our hotel. Pace was perfect, English perfect, knowledge of the area exceptional. Booked their boat tour for the next week too."
"We're already planning the next trip back. The flexibility of having our own driver — stopping for photos, changing the schedule mid-day, asking for a slower lunch — was the best part."
Want Mostar with a swim instead? Mostar & Kravice trades Međugorje for the waterfalls.
Mostar's iconic Old Bridge over the emerald Neretva and an afternoon swim beneath the Kravice cascades. Two countries, two cultures, one full day.
UNESCO Kotor, baroque Perast and the man-made island of Our Lady of the Rocks. The coastal road that ranks among the most scenic in Europe.
Croatia's second city. Wander Diocletian's 1,700-year-old palace walls, swim at Bačvice and lunch on the Riva — back to Dubrovnik for dinner.
